D-Link DWA-131 Wireless N Nano USB AdapterBlack

I was looking for Raspberry Pi compatible wifi dongle that can be powered without a USB powered hub. After going through the compatibility list, I choose this product. Out of box, you will face difficulty in getting connected with "wpa_gui" (signal strength as low as -200dBm !!). But try with "wicd", it works like champ. Gets connected at 270 Mbps speed with signal strength 90% at a distance of 15+ feet with lots of doors and wall. Run following : sudo apt-get install wicd sudo apt-get install wicd-curses sudo reboot But runs very hot, don't know how long it will survive (as I use it for torrent downloading). Fortunately for its price - it does not break your bank balance, can be replaced easily :) So far it worked great (used for 15 days). Definitely worth buying.

This product is good. This is my second purchase of the same product as first got accidentally damaged. Tested on windows OS works fine. For Ubuntu there is some driver Issue so not recommended for linux but works well within virtual machines. Small in size but delicate so plug where kids will not touch.

The device never worked from the start. I bought this adapter, even though it was costlier than TP-Link alternatives because I wanted compatibility with Mac and Linux. But the device didn't work on Windows 8.1 and Mac. Moreover, the delivered product doesn't look like the one it is shown in the picture. The shipped product is Rev. E1, for which no support exist on the Internet. Totaly crappy device which wasted 3-4 hours of my time and didn't even work!!
