The Canvas Tab P690 has very good specifications. It has a 1.8Ghz Intel Atom Quad Core Processor, Intel HD graphics, 1GB of RAM, 8GB ROM (~3GB for apps + ~3GB for Internal storage + rest of the memory is taken by the OS) and it runs Android KitKat 4.4.4 out of the box (with promised upgrade to lollipop). The tablet is powered by a 4000mAh battery.
WoW amazing right??!!!
No...
Even though the specs are excellent, there are a lot of pre-installed apps which slow the tablet down to a very large extent. Some apps cannot be disabled e.g. The QuickLook Launcher which takes up 65% of you battery life and is absolutely no use to me, infact it slows down the tablet.
Display:
The display is a 8 inches, 1280 x 800 pixels, IPS display, WXGA screen, which is worth a complement. The display is bright and colour contrast is very good with great viewing angles, suitable for reading, watching movies and streaming videos.
Storage:
8GB ROM (~3GB for apps + ~3GB for Internal storage + rest of the memory is taken by the OS). Expandable upto 32GB. Great...
1GB RAM ... Not so great.... TOO little memory hungry games. Out of the box you get only about 25% - 30% of the RAM SINCE IT IS CLUTTERED WITH SOO MANY preinstalled apps which keep running in the background.
So delete them or disable them (whichever applicable) to make maximum use of the RAM.
Camera:
Not upto the mark. The camera app is very bad and does not provide any filters. The camera too does not give good photographs in low.
So do not buy this if you are looking for a good camera on the tablet.
Frankly I don't see its need when you have smartphones with good shooters.
Overall Build:
Excellent build quality and is light weight. The tablet has a very premium look, with its aluminum back cover and as an introductory offer Micromax provides a flip cover as well.
Battery:
4000mAh, I think is just not enough for the kind of apps pre-installed with the tablet. The battery barely lasts for a day on full charge with moderate use like watch videos, reading, little bit of wifi. It lasts only ~4 hrs on continuous wifi. Standby is promised at 180hrs "under ideal conditions". I doubt that...
Conclusion:
This is a very good ebook reader and great for watching movies/videos on-the-go. The Processor is actually very good and gets an Antutu Benchmark score of 30500 with maximum of 50fps on the screen, but eats a lot of battery. Battery backup is ok ONLY if you disable most of the apps (the QuickLook Launcher is a real pain).
So buy this ONLY and ONLY for the good display quality and good processing speed at such a LOW PRICE.
Thanks and hope this is useful.
